When the growing season ends, many might be forgiven for thinking that an Envirocare operative goes into hibernation, but in reality each depot is able to keep their staff fully occupied over the winter months, with bespoke one-off works running alongside the regular planned maintenance.
So when our reigning Franchisee of the Year, Gary Newton, from our Southampton depot, was tasked with reinstating a fire break and reducing tree height around the perimetre of a maintained site, he saw this as a great opportunity to increase his staffs technical ability and knowledge.
Each staff member was enroled on a MEWP’s training course, as working at height was new to them. MEWP (a Mobile Elevating Work Platform) is a powered machine that offers a temporary work platform allowing work to be conducted safely at height).
With one of the staff also given additional chainsaw training, Gary was able to provide a great service in an area where he would not have been able to previously. Additional training also keeps his staff motivated as they increase their skills and ability.
